Staffing
All school groups must be accompanied by trained teachers in a ratio of staff to students as determined by the NSW Department of Education & Training.
Parents may assist but cannot be made responsible for the care or supervision of groups.
The management of all students is the responsibility of visiting teachers. The Centre retains the right to exclude students and groups who fail to act in a responsible and safe manner.
Pre & Post Visit Programs
Schools are encouraged to integrate the visit to the Centre into a complete program or unit of work. The EEC has units of work developed for most specific visit programs.
The Centre staff will assist where they can in preparing for the visit and with pre and post visit activities. Assistance can be obtained by phoning the teaching staff and appropriate support material or references will be posted, faxed or emailed to the school/organisation.
When appropriate, copies of worksheets and workbooks will be sent with the program. Some of these are also available to download from our Work Sheets page. Teachers should make enough copies for each student. Students using worksheets should also have a clipboard and a pen or pencil.
Fire Policy
Occasionally an extreme fire danger exists and the National Parks and Wildlife Service will close all affected parks. If this occurs we will endeavour to find an alternative date for the school.
Our Bushfire Emergency Plan is available to download from our Risk Management page.
Parents
Parents are very welcome to attend the excursion. We particularly encourage parents to come and assist with K-2 groups.
Name Tags
We encourage the use of name tags on students (K-6).
