Preparing for a Visit

Earth Friendly Lunch

An earth friendly lunch is one that ONLY uses recyclable or reusable containers which reduces the amount of rubbish. An example of an earth friendly lunch (EFL) is;

  1. Sandwiches in grease-proof paper. Paper goes into compost bin.
  2. Drink in reusable container. Empty container comes home for a wash.
  3. Fresh fruit. Nature has provided its own compostable packaging!
  4. Biscuits and cake in a paper bag. The paper bag can be composted.

Wet Weather

In general the staff are prepared to complete the visit in inclement conditions except where health and safety is compromised. Schools and visiting groups should assess the appropriateness of the visit and consult the Centre staff as soon as possible.

Where the visit has had to be cancelled the Centre will do its best to find an alternative date.

Medical

Schools must be aware of any medical or health conditions that may affect the students on their visit to one of our sites.

Specific provisions should be made for students with asthma, severe allergies and other medical problems, particularly where special equipment is required, eg nebulisers or EpiPen.

Schools should also ensure that they carry a suitable First Aid kit on these field trips and that an adult accompanying the students has First Aid training.

Centre Rules

The following general rules will be outlined by the Centre staff in the introductory session with the visiting students. Normal school and departmental rules will also apply.

  • The students have a responsibility to protect the fauna and flora of the National Park.
  • Students must stay with their allocated teacher and on the indicated trails unless otherwise advised.
  • All rubbish must be placed in the appropriate receptacle.
  • All equipment should be treated with care and returned after use.
